Overview

VidNotes AI ("we", "our", or "us") is a mobile application that generates AI-powered study notes from YouTube videos and playlists. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect information when you use our app.

By using VidNotes AI, you agree to the practices described in this policy. If you do not agree, please discontinue use of the app.

Device information

Guest Mode

You can use VidNotes AI without creating an account. In guest mode:

• Generated notes are stored only on your device using local storage (AsyncStorage). They are never uploaded to our servers.
• A randomly generated anonymous device ID is created and stored locally. This ID is used solely to enforce a 3-note guest limit and is never linked to your identity.
• Your device ID persists after you sign in, but your guest notes are migrated to your account and the guest data is cleared.
• Features such as quizzes, flashcards, and the AI chatbot are not available in guest mode.

VidNotes AI relies on the following third-party services to function. Each processes data only as necessary to deliver their service:

Data Retention

VidNotes AI uses an automated note lifecycle to keep your storage clean:

Account data (your email, profile) is retained for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, all associated data is removed from our systems.

Chat history and quiz attempts are retained for the duration of your account to power adaptive learning features.

Security

We take reasonable technical measures to protect your data:

• All communication between the app and our API is encrypted over HTTPS/TLS.
• Authentication is handled via Supabase's JWT-based auth system with short-lived tokens.
• Our backend enforces ownership checks — you can only access your own notes, quizzes, and chat sessions.
• API keys for AI services are stored server-side and never exposed to the client app.
• The .env file containing secrets is never committed to version control.

No system is perfectly secure. If you believe you have found a security vulnerability, please contact us directly.

Children's Privacy

VidNotes AI is intended for users aged 13 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 13.

If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us immediately at the address below and we will delete that information.

Your Rights

You have the following rights regarding your data:

• Access: You can view all your notes, quizzes, and chat history directly within the app.
• Deletion: You can delete individual notes inside the app. To delete your account and all associated data, contact us.
• Portability: You can export your notes as PDF directly from the app.
• Opt-out of notifications: You can revoke push notification permission at any time through your device settings.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. For significant changes, we may notify you within the app.
